Only answer in details why this story is racist

Emmy June 24, 2026 4:13 pm

1. The mc is from the midwestern state, from Illinois, and fought for The Union for his family's legacy (probably not because they were against slavery but because they wanted to be winners). And mc finds his family legacy not something to be proud of.

2. The workers on the ranch are not slaves, the dirty racist southern agent assumed they were, but mc made it clear that they are not.

3. Even tho he lost his family and is under a lot of debts, he sold his state to pay the workers so that they can settle somewhere else without a problem.

4. The ml, the guy who said "my ranch" and called himself "your slave" (in a sarcastic way) is half Native American. And since he's half Native, what he said is on him, there is a chance that he wants to get revenge.

5. Absolutely no black person was depicted as evil or blamed or accused like some old Hollywood movies (there was also no false portrayal by the art style). I also saw that they were respected as equal and got paid for their work by the mc. The story is set after the civil war, so by law no one should be a slave to another.

Let's not forget depicting history is not racistic, so here's a question for people who say this story is full of racistic elements, please explain in details without using curse words to offend others why this manhwa is racist, explain like I'm five.

op is clearly trying to grasp what is actually making people uncomfortable and engage in the critiques of the art. You are making your side look absolutely idiotic and insufferable – it's a major disservice to those who actually have valid takes that you vouch for. You are incapable of engaging with others in good faith. You should be embarrassed honestly.

I don't think you understand how crazy you guys look so sane people who are js trying to have a proper discussion. You're ruining this space entirely, it's almost impossible to find genuine discussion because of people like you. Pls stop commenting now, I'll stop too bc I can't seem to find a way to get you guys to stop burying the valid critiques.

So rude as always! What you are saying is this, if he was a black savior that'd be okay, right? Why does it matter what was tge color of his skin? Lincoln was not a savior for sure if you read his diary. So who should be a savior? Are the German people who helped Jews to escape not worth mentioning, cause they were German and some even worked for the Nazi? Are all white people during civil war who freed their slaves not worth mentioning? The manhwa may depict the mc as a hero, but does he think he's a hero? A hero of what really? A war he didn't want to partake? Or wait, do we even know the mc? Do we know if he was against slavery and joined the war on his own? Oh wait it doesn't matter, cause he is white.

Be brave and say it, say "I hate all the whitle people who helped end slavery, they were hypocrites and no one should talk about them or depict them in fictional stories." And with that you also tell other white people to not be on black people's side, cause what they do at the end is call white people hypocrites.

And soma don't share the credit, you are the landlord of this comment section, and I asked cause I really don't see what you say. It's like we're reading two different manhwa. Get some sleep. Gonna head to work. See you later.

i know u probably wont read all of this but since bitches are so adamant on saying “its not racist! It's just a drawing!” Let me say sum shit bc clearly yall some hollowheaded bitches.
    1. The ‘White Savior’ trope, this trope is completely inappropriate for a BL set in this time period. Matter of fact, the timeline for the BL is inappropriate. Your main defense is that oh no he fought in the union and gave money to slaves to relocate! No, he did this to make his father proud. And giving the money to the slaves? Plot device to paint him as the good guy like you guys can't see that? And his family were former slave owners, making him do this is just trying to paint him as an ‘oh im not like other guys, i care for the POC community’.
    2. The inaccurate depiction of slavery and slaves after the war. Slaves were not just simply let go and given money. They were still kept, despite the location, north or south, they were still kept. And even if they were given money to go someplace else, a lot can't. This is America. Jim Crow laws ring a bell in that hollow little head of yours? Like ‘lets take actual history and throw it out.’ says the author of this shitty racist slop. They have no features and seemingly are only there as a plot device to make the white man seem like a savior to all.
    3. The racist connotations. Why are we showing a confederate flag? Why are we not properly drawing the black people even if they are background and will never be seen again. To have a BL set in this time period, it's very important to highlight what made this period of time so important. And sure you can defend the last panel as sarcasm but in that timeline and period? Why would that be necessary, like genuinely?
That's all for you hollow headed bitches, if you wanna respond, go ahead, if u have more points, say them but i already said enough to make it clear why this shit is not ok and clearly racist.

anything's possible, so maybe this creator will turn out to have done their research and not be insensitive or ignorant, but I'm already skeptical due to the choice of character backgrounds. like of all the kinds of people and stories you could tell about this time period in this place, why are these the ones chosen? what's the appeal of their dynamic? why choose this setting and time period for that? if the creator hasn't done their due diligence, those questions will have very unflattering answers.
as it stands, it looks like a very deliberate choice to write around the existence of Black people who lived during that time even though their presence is integral to the livelihoods of the MCs. maybe the author thought they'd avoid the backlash they're now getting by doing that, but that's still an expression of racism, by ignoring that Black people are also people who want their stories and experiences told and treated with respect. and if the author didn't want to include Black people, which they're ultimately not obligated to do, they would have been better off choosing another topic and setting to write about, because like it or not, when writing about American history, you'll have to grapple with the racial dynamics of this country one way or another, to say nothing of the civil war era (even postwar) where the crux of the conflict was "what are we going to do with Black people (are they even people?)". to then make the only Black people in the story be faceless mobs seemingly only with the intention of making the white MC look good and ethical, just rubs salt in that wound. if the author wanted an interracial cowboy romance with this particular dynamic, they had other options for time and setting (and not to mention that those power and racial dynamics are present in other times as well).
every choice a creator makes in their story reflects their knowledge and interests, which are not free from bias. intentional or not, I see a lot of opportunity for missteps here.

Well THANK YOU, now I see where the problems lie, I'll try to pick up these issues quicker, I also believe they could have set the story in another time period or at least if they brought up Black people they should have focused on the history around them, if they didn't want to then why portray them in the first place! Okay let me read those threads

No I got it, the setting is inappropriate and that's it, they could have chosen another background, or at least made one of the main characters from Black race to concentrate on major historic facts so that we could see the events through his eyes
