I’m back, here’s a reminder

this series IS racist, if you do not understand why it is racist, I’d suggest you do your research on either a search engine or in this comment section because it’s been explained many times already.

This is not a debate where you get to decide what’s racist or not, only those affected by this can determine if it is so.

This author is Korean, they’ve already distorted many facts about the Civil War, Slavery and history afterwards.

Definition of a White Savior Complex:
- A Character in media who helps the marginalized not out of their own goodwill, but because it gives them something in return, this can be pride, psychological release, etc. It’s important to note that the white savior complex treats POC as helpless individuals, when for the vast majority of history, they’ve fought on the frontlines for their own freedom, and it was only after they showed resistance that some white individuals chose to help.

- The Union was not a just entity, their reason for helping slaves was for their own profits, hence why mc’s family was so rich
- “freeing” a slave meant nothing when they could barely do anything by themselves because of how racist laws were back then, a pouch of money could be confiscated immediately if a white man wished it, and they could be killed if I white man asked for it, doesn’t matter what relation they had.
- MC is not a selfless individual, his actions were fueled by his grief not his kindness. He only carried out his duties because it’s what his family was already doing.
- “Mixed Native American” implies rape, meaning that his mother was likely a victim. Many POC were being sexual assaulted and abused on plantations, interracial relationships were outlawed as well so this really is the most plausible answer for this era.

Lastly, when writing history we have to remember who affected the most and who suffered the most losses, while a white man may lose his family and fortune, an indigenous or black slave would lose their ability to speak their own language, their bodily automony, their means live, and even their own limbs. Many had to suffer from starvation, dehydration, torture, sexual assault and many other things everyday. Some even committed suicide or killed each other just to spare themselves from the horrors that would be inflicted upon them in the future.

To write a story set in this time and centering it around a white man is just insanely disgusting, and trying to write a suicidal sob story for him and trying to make a him a white saviour is even worse because it’s only being used to make him appear as a good person, but his actions are the bare minimum. To have a mixed Native American man call himself a slave is just distasteful, not every joke or act of sarcasm is funny or playful.

To end it off, this is not the Author’s history, and when you’re using history, especially in fiction, it’s important to understand that history and who was affected by it, because I can ensure that no one with knowledge of transpired during this time is seeing this as anything more than blatant fetishizing slave history for some stupid master slave dynamic
