Plenty of problematic or tone-deaf BLs do keep going despite backlash, because the author chooses to continue and the publisher allows it. So clearly, criticism doesn’t automatically stop anything it just exists as part of the feedback loop. At the end of the day, publishing a story isn’t a one-way entitlement where you put something out and get immunity from response. You can’t demand an audience and then insist that audience has no right to question how sensitive or harmful the framing is."

No one said Chapter 1 literally condoned slavery. The criticism was about the premise which was a romance between a former slave owner and someone introduced as his SLAVE. People are allowed to judge a story based on the setup because the setup tells readers what kind of story it's going to be. You don't have to wait 50 chapters to decide a premise is in poor taste. If someone announces they r writing a romance around a real historical system of oppression, people are going to have opinions on that from the moment its introduced
