And don't get it twisted—I'm not saying slavery was okay or that it wasn't a serious issue. It was a horrific part of history, and there's no denying that. My point is that many of the same people who are acting outraged over this continue to consume stories with equally disturbing, or even worse, themes without saying a word.
At this point, I'd even argue that most of the people leading these arguments are white anyway.
This actually made me laugh out loud. There have been plenty of discourse online with people complaining about stories like Jinx and Pearl Boy because of how they treat characters and the abuse they suffer.
There also are rarely any stories (BL wise at least) that have an actual Black male lead that isn't "tan," so I don't understand what your second argument was about. How can anybody complain about something that doesn't even really exist?
Your arguments are weak and surface level. This story didn't just "touch on slavery" it was going to be a romantic and eventually sexual one, with a slave x slave master dynamic about a real time in history where people were bought, sold and treated like cattle. If you can't see how messed up and weird it is to make a romance story about that, then I don't know what to tell you girl.
Thank you diva, ignorance and stupidity is the fastest way to get me fired up and as you can see, there's a lot in this whole comment section. I try my best to be respectful but it's difficult lmao.
I've seen your replies too and I appreciate you trying to get people to understand why this was problematic! Hope both sides of your pillow are cold tonight (^з^)-☆
I don't know anything about this, I kind of know why it got cancelled but still you should not compare one crime to another, both are equally bad. Be it slavery or SA. There is "no" miles worse, a crime is a crime until done in self defence. In this case both crimes can't be committed in self defence so both are equally bad.
My two cents on sensitisation, people.

I genuinely don't understand what people want anymore. They cancel a series because the author touches on the topic of slavery, yet those same people who complain still read and enjoy manhwas where the main character is literally sexually abused by the male lead, where there's physical and psychological abuse, and even incest, yet they still end up together like nothing ever happened. Those stories are objectively far more disturbing, but somehow nobody seems to have a problem with them. (A perfect example is Pearl Boy)
I also find it incredibly hypocritical that people only get offended when the story is set in their own country or deals with something related to their own culture. But if it happens somewhere else or affects a different group of people, they couldn't give less of a damn.
And don't even get me started on the racism discourse. People complain about representation, but if a Black male lead is drawn with features that don't fit their beauty standards, they immediately demand that his design be changed because "he shouldn't look like that." It's like they only support diversity as long as it still fits their own idea of what's attractive.
I seriously don't understand these people.
