??? plenty of historical stories out there by authors around the world. books, movies, songs about historical events, even if distorted, are normal. How is that & any real media coverage of actual ongoing events for you "making profit"? it hasn't been a problem when asian countries were depicted, but once it's the US's history, it blew up into this. the way you're seeing this is extreme. where was your hate for mafia, confinement, war, court/castle/royalty stories? People died and die all the time, in every society. Fiction is not denying that, espc romance which uses such characters.
No, what I'm trying to say is how there are so many ppl that are having an unclear standing, huge disharmony, conflicts, and very divided response on this whole situation, because the subject they're looking on doesn't have a clear motif. For example, if we have seen a few more scenes that shows a harmful narrative towards blk and indigenous ppl during this time period, it can be used to further prove the point better of how the story is less likely to have a proper, fair representation of the topic and just gonna be a fetishisation that is the slavexslavemaster pairing. Which lessens the stupid argument of those people that are complaining abt the people 'acting too sensitive' 'being dramatic and thinking of the contents being racist too quickly'. I don't know where you got the kr authord profit thing from.
First of all dont put words into my mouth
This story was so clearly was set to be "steamy hot bl" with the way fans are mourning it as " i wish we atleast got to see them fuck" and you know damn well that BL as a genre has ths worst reputation for fetishizing many things rape confinements patriarchy royalty stories that you just mentioned etc. And a story where things go wrong people do talk about it. The problem is that using royalty war mafia stories have been so much generalised its lost its meaning but we still have people talking about those things and letting another important topic lose is really bad its like saying " its already bad as it is what's one more" and also the relationship of a Master x slave is inherently wrong in itself ( its not impossible but using this trope for a romantic story to PROFIT YOURSELF is indeed wrong. )
Im not saying a author can't write things about certain topics but its the way they should ve presented and i certainly wouldn't like a bl series to bring such a important topic knowing the Fandom
You got a valid point but the thing is two things can be true at once the author who is a korean please correct me if im wrong will be drawing a slave x Master story correct me if im wrong which will be released to the whole world...also the fact they top was a blue eyed blondie was shady asf so dont say "its because they're white" not every white person has blonde hair blue eyes that's another push towards the fetish and i dont think the author did it on purpose they might not have known the gravity of it but its exactly why we shouldn't let a bl series that is catered to a certain fandom go on with a heavy topic they could've not fetishizie it but the Fandom sure was and "oh its just fiction" but fiction is what affects reality there really is no more to this the author womaned up and canceled it good for her she did what was best for her and the Fandom that's it we dont need to beat a dead horse
hmm I'm glad you elaborated, and I agree that for royalty, mafia, confinement etc it has been normalised. It's bc history & other countries have always been a stable for fiction, and hierarchies and power imbalances have always also been the case (and it's not gonna change).
I feel like this master x slave thing isn't new, and it's veeery similar to master x servant, which there's plenty of (it's also historically accurate that those in power abuse their status).
All creators ofc want to get paid for their work, which is normal, by catering to a certain audience. This is a BL author, and yeah, the steamy smex is very popular in BL, so adding some historical setting for flavour (or kinks, tropes etc.) is again nothing new. I'm sure the author and her team didn't imagine that their audience would react like this, espc because we have all the other examples out there that deal with darker themes and similar topics, and haven't been boycotted.
There IS an audience, as we have seen, as there is for anything in the world. BL/romance readers usually don't care about accuracy & as said, have becomes accustomed to the darker, twisted romances, and just want to see some smexy times.
Whether it's right... well, I feel like I've seen worse works, we've only had one chapter out so far, it could've become a typical love story between people of diff status. But since the reaction of some people was really bad (and loud), the author felt like it wasn't worth continuing it, and she's right. If the point is to publish smutty BL, there's no need to continue this & confront angry potential customers for smth they don't care about. The setting was only meant to be the background, not the main plot (which is romance).
So yeah, I feel like the hate is way too much for this one chapter and the general topic that isn't new, but I agree that for a bl series it's not worth it to pursue. I usually go by: don't like, don't read; as there's sooo much out there I won't like (like confinement stories!), but I would never contact the author on social media and insult them for their choices of toxic romance depictions. I've seen some responses on this site that were way worse than the content depicted in this one chapter, people who were in favour of the manhwa being discontinued, so it's not like these people have the moral standards they demand from others themselves. Not to generalise, but there are no saints among either type of reader.
Yes, you're right. But the reason i made this comment is because i saw countless people that were bashing out at the poc community or particularly anyone for being upset abt this manhwa. It made it sound like the trauma and pain their generation went thru from slavery and racism were being dismissed when those ppl say that they assume things too quickly from one chapter, and those ppl end up sounding unconsciously racist and out themselves. Nevertheless, i agree that nothing good would ever come out of this manhwa for Jaxx and everyone with it being surrounded by a very heavy topic of the civil war. And there still will be ignorant people that are bound to fetishize things regardless, especially during the smut scenes. Which is why i said in the end it was the best option for her to nip it in the bud.

I feel like this whole situation got much messier than it should've as everything was judged only based on a single chapter. So, many people are divided with mixed opinions as the manhwa itself has no further presentation of its own to show what its full colors and intentions were about. There are people who are rightfully upset about the historical setting of the Civil war, including the depiction of a typical white savior trope and the possible romanticization it may lead on the topic of slavery, or a possible misrepresentation of indigenous people based on stereotypes. And then there are others who bash out on them for being 'too sensitive' or for having the series cancelled. It would've been nice to see a few more chapters only to have a clearer view on which direction it is actually going in, whether if it will be harmful representation and fetishisation or if it will be something that actually explores the complexity of these sensitive topics seriously. But then again, it is probably for the best for everyone including, especially Jaxx's career to have this series be nipped in the bud immediately before it grows into something more concerning and become a deeper scar.
