I don't think people aren't upset because the characters are flawed. Flawed characters make for interesting stories. The issue is that the story included sexual assault when it wasn't necessary. The conflict and emotional impact would have worked just as well without it, so it feels like the SA was used for shock value while its impact was downplayed.

Idk y’all. We’re still all people who feel jealous and insecure and don’t handle situations appropriately 100% of the time, if characters didn’t have flaws there would be no story.
