maybe because a lot of readers still see them as men first. the femininity that comes with twink or fem bottoms doesn’t fit the fantasy they’re looking for. a lot of people fetishize buff, masculine gay bottoms because it satisfies the fantasy of seeing “real men” being vulnerable with each other, something they don’t usually associate with straight men. so when a bottom looks more feminine, it starts feeling too close to a straight dynamic in their eyes, which kind of defeats the fantasy they’re chasing.

i don’t think people hate them, i just think some people view ‘real’ yaoi or, even gay relationships, as something that leaves no room for femininity in the slightest. which is kinda proven by the point of many yaoi fans (esp on tiktok) equating ‘real’ men to buff men. which i find to be a very weird mix of homophobia, misogyny, and objectification of gay men.

Bc the way the authors often handle is almost a caricature of women instead of being about embracing and being at ease with his femininity. Also they often make it appear as if fem = weak which definitely has some sexist ties
