I'm ignoring the second argument because it's just a strawman.
The problem is that the very first chapter already relies on racist tropes like the white savior narrative, the ex-master/ex-slave dynamic, and a Native ML many felt was fetishized. Those aren't later assumptions, they're present from the start.
It also didn't help that Jaxx later admitted they hadn't done much research. I don't think it was malicious, but the setting isn't one you can under research and then use as a romance backdrop.
People aren't still discussing this to harass Jaxx. Most accepted the apology. The conversation now is about explaining the criticism and pushing back against the racism in these comments.
This comment section alone includes people defending lynching, using slurs, praising colonization, and telling Black and Indigenous people to "get over it." If anything, it shows why these conversations are still necessary.
Nobody is saying it was perfect. But it was only one chapter. We didn't even get to see the full story. Canceling everything immediately is stupid and overkill.Jaxx admitted she didn't research enough and took it down. That's enough. Most people accepted the apology. The real issue is people like you keep acting like any criticism of the backlash = defending racism. Not everyone complaining about the mob is racist. Some of us just think it's ridiculous to kill a whole story over one chapter before it even had a chance. You can criticize the chapter without turning it into a huge drama and harassment campaign. And fir white savior narrative? Where? From what I read, Gerald freed the slaves because he wanted to reunite them with their families since he lost his. That's white savior, be realistic and actually re-read it. And how do you know that Jax under-researched it? If you know her works you'd know she would have made a great story but sure, be obtuse
All that essay just to let us know you want to consume slavery-slop Indigenous fetishizing content made by an ignorant 30+ year old South Korean woman who should have known better, but continued anyway because she thought it would slide because BL is the honeypot of normalized rape, pedophilia, coercion, fetishization, and every other ugly thing fandoms keep excusing as "just fiction". meanwhile RIDI, Manta, and Beyond, other South Korean companies, profit off a manhwa that diminishes the targeted heritages, Black and Indigenous, into background characters and backdrop material. and Ezra, an Indigenous man, is reduced into coddling a White-Savior character while Black and Indigenous people are treated like props for someone else's angst.
Spare us the lecture. You are clearly neither Indigenous nor Black. Do not tell us what to feel, how to react, or how to "correct" our reactions. Fuck outta here with your mental gymnastics, strawman arguments, and bad-faith deflection.
Shut up subhuman swine, you're lack of thought literally gives me cancer. I'm indigenous myself, all I hear from this yap is: I'm so sheltered! I refuse to actually engage and connect with the REAL WORLD. Wake up the real world isn't the past, were taught to never forget it and to be better from it, but from you're rhetoric all you're doing is censoring it, pathetic
I mean this comment shows already the lack of research, during this time period slaves where purposefully sold separately from their family so they were impossible to find and reunite with but also to try ‘keep them in line’ and the money he gave them was useless in a way because immediately after the war things weren’t much different slaves couldn’t own or purchase land, also there were still people who owned/sold slaves illegally (in the short period after the war) so if you were a ‘free’ slave walking around you could still be kidnapped and re-sold into slavery and it’s not only blacks people natives were kidnapped and sold as well, the best option would have been for him to keep the land he owned and let the slaves settle their as free people, the author tried to make it look Gerald wasn’t thinking and doing it out of kindness but it’s a poor decision made by the author.
Wasn't he going to kill himself? Literally if they remained on his land and he went missing or died it would've been worse for the slaves. And also I know my civil rights history very well, so I know how risky it would've been, but simply saying the money Gerald gave them was useless? You DO know that at this time slaves were still fleeing to the union states right? It was literally realistic, what would you prefer he do?

We all know slavery was evil. That’s not the debate. The actual stupidity here is pretending one unfinished chapter of a BL manhwa is some kind of hate crime that deserves immediate cancellation and harassment. Jaxx admitted the problems and pulled it, something you people claim to want, and you’re still not satisfied. That proves this was never about fixing anything. But rather just being performative fir the sake of it.
You’re not 'protecting culture.' You’re just narrow-minded. You consume dark, problematic BL all the time but lose your minds when it touches American history in a way you don’t like. Other cultures’ brutal histories get turned into romance and drama constantly without this energy. The selective outrage is pathetic.Shutting down stories like this doesn’t honor the past. It guarantees people learn less about it. But sure, keep 'defending' history by making sure no one talks about it in fiction. Brilliant strategy.
Those who get it, see how ridiculous this was, those who don't, leave Twitter and touch grass. Engage with the real world.
