Have you read this author's other work? Cuz they don't really do lighthearted romantic romps. They take their stories and their characters seriously and it HURTS. But they also write really complicated emotions and grief very well and tend to have satisfying payoffs. Or at the very least, tell something genuinely interesting and emotional.

I really loved A Terrible Romance. I thought it was refreshing and unique. The hard parts ARE hard and the trauma and self-sabotage depicted is really real on both ends. But I think it's well told and holds space for the characters pain, struggles, and earned happiness. But it's definitely a heavier read.
