orientalism does not pertain to east asia, it's the appropriation of SWANA and MENA culture like how disney's aladdin largely contributed to appropriating djinns and sexualizing arab clothing. i get what you're trying to say but it's important that you understand the distinction
Idk about those who accuse BWAT of orientalism because the oriental is in dire need of more diverse in media with all these pale characters being the beauty standard lmao and the extreme whitening standards here in Asia where most of these BLs are made. I'm glad he puts dark skinned characters as beauties and the main characters instead of making them a side character, comic relief or a one dimensional love interest that I usually see them in.
