YW's earrings and chain from his gang days. TJ pierced his ears like YW after their first time together (Chap 59). But notice YW no longer wears the earrings and the chain. That's a conscious distancing from the past that he's doing. But he hasn't quite thrown it away either. On the contrary, he keeps them safe in an old cigarette box, that he planned to take with him before Jamie accosts him and the whole shebang happens.
Significant that even when seemingly moving on, the one thing he was going to carry with him was this box of mementos from the past. Basically ties in with his state of limbo--out of the gang life, but never able to get TJ out of his mind. In Chap 32 when they have that fight, YW's inner monologue there is very telling. "Every day is a struggle just to get you out of my head." Just because he's left gang life doesn't mean the gang life has left him. His oast will always be with him. hence teh chap 98 inner monologue of embracing his past, and acknowledging that hios heart had always been tethered to that one place. That one spot--TJ.
