the way he's illustrated over the course of the story is one of my favorite parts!
It does feels realistic and natural the change in his demeanor and in the dynamic he has with Garam. Also, it gives the impression that Garam will soon be able to read his mind and anticipate his actions; he is an extremely observant person.
Damn the Professor compromised and now Maria eats with them... and he's looking more and more human.
