Chapter 44 spoilers

Juyeon’s common fucking sense appearing to him in the form of some ghastly apparition telling him NOT to take it easy on Jiwook is frying me. Girl that’s your rationality talking. You’re just thinking with your dick. Juyeon is my favorite girlfailure in da world. Wdym you’ve backslid from revenge to pity for the guy who tortured you he’s always touching and loving on that man too. It lowk breaks my heart. He could’ve had that when they were middle schoolers but Jiwook screwed the pooch and now Juyeon can only comfort himself with a facsimile of their young love now that he’s got Jiwook in his house, forced to keep his mouth closed and his legs open.

Also it’s interesting how his biggest priority with Jiwook’s phone is that Jiwook doesn’t escape. In the novel he doesn’t rlly care about possibly going to jail for kidnapping and rape. They’re both unreliable narrators, but Juyeon would rather attribute his feelings about Jiwook to pity. Like one might feel for a kicked animal. That part always fascinated me because he’s always trying to protect the power dynamic between them, but the irrefutable fact is that Jiwook has SO much power over Juyeon. He wants to abuse Jiwook but also endear himself to him? So that Jiwook will both fear him and be attracted to him. And in this way he can reverse the old status quo where Jiwook had all the power and held Juyeon’s feelings over his head. I think it rly hurts Juyeon to think that he might always feel more for Jiwook than Jiwook feels for him. Because that means that he might never get out from under Jiwook’s thumb.
