I think it's more psychologic than fantasy survival
Fantasy survival or not it is important for a fiction to have some reality. No one likes a mary sue protagonist, him fumbling actually makes it more believable and entertaining.
Teach is mentally unstable! He is traumatized, he is an unreliable narrative. Idk why y'all want him to act like some super good liar. He is probably having PTSD flash backs of his boo beating a man to death.
And it's not like teach is complety useless, we have to remember guwon is the main source of teach's trauma! It is normal for him to lose composers in front of him.
