People, men in this case, like the professor exist... The charm of that kind of men, one you can fully hate, if you're indifferent enough but, even then, it's the actual action of putting an effort into them as a person, into hating every thing that makes them attractive to one eyes, so one is still conscious of them. I knew people like that and it's a scary thing how they can impress you, swoon you, learn from them but then you remember they're inaccessible emotionally, they close up unless they talk about their passion. Of course the professor is at a level so much higher of passion and obsession that he, himself is regretting or heavily question his actions. He does want the attention but he's bound to become the new distraction, something he so many times told Garam he doesn't need...
