Lowkey I agree but after all that abt the past i can't help but feel bad for him..

You're absolutely right to hate Jingi, but I think using the scale of "who raped the mc the least" as the basis of liking or hating a character is a bit hypocritical. I personally like Jingi because he has more depths and character compared to Heonjae. He has a lot more storyline going on for him, whereas Heonjae feels sort of one dimensional because of the way his character is too hung up on Myeongil. But at the end of the day, it's a matter of preference cause obviously they're both trash.

That's what I'm saying!!! They're indeed BOTH trash. But if u come down to a human basic level Jingi feels more real and more human like....I mean he got deep thoughts about him, his family and sometimes Myeongil....Even if I feel like the romantic aspect of their relationship is a bit pushed without real REAL reason but I don't mind as he (tried) backed off for his brother. And,yes Heonjae feels like a fly, as he thinks about one thing, with only one goal with almost 0 thoughts that comes directly from him.....What do u mean u need the help of ur brother to know how to act like a human with Myeongil. Even tho we can say that maybe he has psychological problems, but well the author doesn't really give him chances to show H trying to fight against it. Plus he's selfish, y'all like him bcuz he didn't rape M that much but it's just thanks to J, if J wasn't here, H might be more violent than J. Plus J doesn't want to kill anyone just bcuz he likes cutting people where H does likes that bro ....how many times we saw H with Thoughts of killing M or other people ???

Didn't mean to write an essay but since you asked...

First I'm gonna say that this is a prison setting and I can't expect typical green flag sex/behavior from either brothers so my response is based on who I subjectively like more. If this was irl I wouldn't pick either of them because they're both terrible people, but this is BL and I'm wearing my fictional BL lens of who I'd pick for an endgame. Also remember that even when Heonjae wasn't touching Myeongil he was still raping the other people in his cell to vent his sexual frustrations so I don't think people should justify favorites on who raped Myeongil less.

That aside...I personally like tragic/emotionally-stunted characters and Jingi fits the bill. When I consider his upbringing from childhood to adulthood (victim of child SA, manipulated into going to prison, constant attempts at his life in prison + his own attempts at suicide) vs Heonjae's (mentally-stunted, bullied in school, went to prison for amputating his coach, though spending prison life normally) I find myself sympathizing with Jingi wayyyy more despite the horrible things he's done. I also like that Jingi has layers to his personality -- his violent, rough exterior is an intentional barrier he's put up to survive prison life and we only get glimpses of his real personality while he's drunk, through flashbacks, or through gestures like helping Heonjae seduce Myeongil/teaching Myeongil how to write.

Heonjae in contrast feels more one-dimensional. He's a textbook yandere -- once he fixates on someone they become his whole world. He's so obsessed with Myeongil to the point that he was willing to have his brother killed (ignoring the tent during sports day) and then actually attempting to kill his brother. Even when he failed he was scared Myeongil would hate him (not that his brother would die) and he made Myeongil stab him so he could avoid the consequences of his failure (he also associates the stabbing as an act of affection so he can always think of Myeongil through the stab wound). Jingi has been doing everything he can to help Heonjae during their childhood and in prison and it rubs me the wrong way knowing all Heonjae cares about is Myeongil and that he shows no remorse for nearly killing Jingi.

I also find Jingi's push/pull relationship with Myeongil way more interesting than Heonjae's obsession with Myeongil. Heonjae/Myeongil seems cute on the surface but it reads to me like Myeongil simply doesn't know how to handle Heonjae's affections and defaults to taking care of him like he would his siblings. He STILL hasn't answered Heonjae's confession which makes me think he can't give Heonjae the answer he wants. Whereas Jingi/Myeongil is a slow build -- they initially hate each other but that dynamic changes once Myeongil tells Jingi about his mother's death. After that things snowball as Myeongil learns about Jingi's motivations + past. Jingi finds himself unable to curb his own desires for Myeongil, and since he's emotionally-stunted the only way he's able to communicate those feelings is through possessive behavior like constant sex, tattooing his prison number, or being annoyed when Myeongil mentions Heonjae. And when Myeongil learns that Jingi might like him he becomes hyperaware of the latter and you can see he's beginning to think about his own feelings for Jingi as well. Later chapters dig more into this and it fuels my Jingi/Myeongil delusions even more.

tl;dr - I like Jingi/Myeongil's slow building enemies-to-lovers dynamic more than Heonjae/Myeongil's one-sided obsessive love. I don't hate Heonjae lovers because there's definitely an audience for that kind of character, but when people ask why I like Jingi more or why he seems more popular I think it's mostly because of the above.

hmm..and im saying this as a response and not a fricking comeback alright like respect given

ok so like with the hyprocritical yup sorry for that, but if we talk about like..this. how does more depths and character like help me understand more about jingi? i’ve already seen enough omg like u cant even say like jingi has more depth and character cus its literally supposed to be like that cus hes the male lead..and like with heonjae feeling one dimensional and is too hung up on myeonggi i dont..think so? i think i like heonjae more cus i see myself in him but either way,to be honest if we’re talking about humanlike im gonna say that heonjae def has more humanlike traits rather than jingi.unlike jingi he holds himself back yet ofcourse the cons of it would be letting out their sexual frustrations to others but like if we’re talking about HUMANlike heonjae has it.i think u get what im trying to like point at though..unlike jingi..he acts like a horny animal that’d been pent up and locked in a cage and now just seen humankind cus what the fuck do like i dont get the thought process? like touching people in their sleep? fucking them infront of everyone? does he have like no empathy like ohhh my god i cant even say like this justifies whateva whateva cus theyre literally criminals but bro at this point im tired of talking im just gonna say that i dont like jingi

Yo it's all cool, it's actually really nice to have this kind of conversation under this kind of manhwa lol.

So it seems to me that you may have missed a few context clues within the story. There is actually an explanation to why Jingi acts the way he does. While it is not explicitly stated, it can be inferred that his hypersexuality is a result of being a victim of child sexual abuse. Real life victims of sexual assault often become hypersexual as a trauma response. In Jingi's case since he was repeatedly exploited by multiple men while being filmed, he gets off of assaulting other men (any inmate that gets put in his cell) and exhibitionism. It's a trauma response and a coping mechanism to keep himself alive inside the prison. While he doesn't look as mentally challenged as Heonjae, Jingi carries a lot of psychological trauma, aside from being hypersexual, he's also actively suicidal with mutiple nearly successful attempts in the past. His psych is really fucked up. Having said that, this is in no way an attempt to excuse to his actions but it's something to contextualize his character. I hope this answer your questions.

Heonjae is 'learning to be human' while simultaneously plotting his brother's murder... Idk man that feels a bit psychopathic. I think there's potential for him to grow after prison the more he learns about the world and engages with Myeongil's family, but this also means letting go of his obsession with Myeongil and becoming his own person. He currently reads one dimensional because his only motivation for doing anything has been Myeongil -- be with Myeongil, make Myeongil like him, get rid of obstacles that interfere with his relationship with Myeongil. I'm hoping his interaction with Myeongil's family will help him move on from his fixation.

Jingi is hypersexual because of his childhood SA and as a defense mechanism to assert dominance. He's rough with Myeongil and likes to humiliate him because the same things probably happened to him when he was little. He knows how to be romantic and gentle but he defaults to being rough because he doesn't want to show weakness, especially not in prison. Now he's done some shitty things and I'm not defending his actions, but I wouldn't call Jingi a 'pent up horny animal' without considering why he's like that in the first place. If anything Heonjae is more pent up and horny because dude is fucking his cell mates in place of Myeongil and after prison he's still fantasizing about doing sexual things with him.

I mean yeah you're entitled to say you don't like Jingi but you did ask ppl why they like him and a bunch of us gave our reasons lol. Anyways I realize I get too long-winded when talking about Slammer Dogs... Just wanted to share my thoughts and if you still hate Jingi and like Heonjae more that's fine! At the end of the day this is fiction and I enjoy seeing healthy discussions about the nature of the characters/story. ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
