I feel like she's having a reasonable reaction though? They are in vastly different social classes. He holds all the power, if they get caught she loses literally every thing. That's not likely to happen and they'll have a happily ever after; but it adds a touch of realism to the story.
oh no i completely agree about the social gap between them and the imbalance, but i think saying her love is "one-sided" is pretty unfair to Vincent after he has showed her multiple times and quite obviously how he loved her... i mean he's been looking for her for years, can't leave her side, remembers little things, the ribbon on the gate of the annex.....
