Maybe I got some things incorrect (i'm sorry!) but what I remember is:

Juyeon confessed to Jiwook in high school then Jiwook made fun of him & let his friends gang rape Juyeon. He took the tape, sent it to Juyeon's mother and that made his mother went into hospital. Basically ruined and destroyed Juyeon's life.

Omfg WHAT????? holy sht now what he is doing to jiwook is valid, not justified but valid if I was him I lowk wouldve done the same but in irl situations I wouldve or MOST would probably have kys, juyeon is brave for this honestly

Pretty much everything that gets done to Jiwook is version of what was done to Jooyeon. (Major spoilers btw + details are not 100% accurate since it’s been a minute since I read the novel ) It happens when they’re in middle/high school.
Jooyeon is not only a couple years younger than Jiwook but has lived a very sheltered life. Jiwook is as rough as he is in the start of the story & is known for revenge p0rn (will basically record having sex with his gfs/girls who end up confessing to him & showing it around. He just likes hurting people who like him). Jooyeon and Jiwook basically like each other’s face and (thanks to Jooyeons persistence) end up spending a lot of time together. Jooyeon basically confesses and Jiwook rejects him but ends up deciding that he can and wants to use Jooyeons feelings to basically have a “toy” he can abuse whenever he feels like it. There are a couple of major events that fuel Jooyeon’s obsession with Jiwook in the less than sane way. 1. He leaked Jooyeons abuse and his mother went crazy enough to want to end her life every time she remembers what happened to him (who he visits btw), family dynamic never the same. 2. Jiwook ends up getting into an accident that messed with his memory on the same day he leaves Jooyeon to be found in a public restroom (bound and in active abuse) 3. He kind of loves/has a soft spot for/obsessed with/consumed by Jiwook despite it all. 4. He’s basically hates the idea that he has no impact on Jiwook’s life despite Jiwook wrecking his entire life. No legal path would make up for the damage Jiwook did to him cause he realizes he’ll never be the same bc of that experience. 5. There’s a side character who basically offers him a path to revenge bc Jiwook for gang related funding & bc he also hated Jiwook 6. Nail in the coffin: he asks Jiwook what he would do if someone hurt him and conveniently forgot & would it be fair to seek revenge. And Jiwook basically says revenge no matter what.
