reading back sry 4 yap central i just like history
i agree that it is a comedy but I'm too much of a history buff.... its not accurate at all so its also bothering me... back then even peasants had some semblance of hygiene. Water would be drawn daily and people would at least wipe themselves down, and there are even historical accounts of very rudimentary dental hygiene. Things like human waste were valuable for the garden(everyone had a herb garden) and urine for soap(or lye? i can't remember) ironically one of the series I've seen with the most historically accurate clothing and armor(maybe not entirely practices) was a pretty explicit yaoi I'm a huge fan of medieval history and wish there were more historically accurate works(or at least some that tried a bit harder)
(This is assuming the story is speaking of the nobles of the medieval era, which it doesn't seem like, it seems early modern era if I'm being GENEROUS and hygiene had gotten even better at those times due to imports for other countries(of course england has always been a bit stinkier compared to other parts of the world)(I'm mostly an armor and weapon fanatic, not someone who has much interest in the other parts of history so some of this may be slightly inaccurate))
"most" I've SEEN, not entirely accurate, as of course it is a yaoi and a fictional webtoon, a stark error("error") that was really glaring to me was that certain people of certain ranks(mercenaries) wouldn't be able to afford plate armor at all, at most gauntlets or a helmet
also the styles are scattered with diff time periods and regions; but I will say, its the first I've seen to take the time add in certain elements usually absent, like gorgets, pauldrons, and tassets. The Ml also had a very interesting set of gothic(as historical style, not modern fashion movement) style armor(i am biased I think the goths had the nicest armor in both utility and aesthetics tho)
anyways the yaoi I speak of is the dukes plaything, very explicit be warned, kind of dicey, but great fashion direction(in comparison to the rest of the historical yaoi I have read) also again, fictional smut yaoi, do not go in expecting actual accuracy
(let me know if you know any others of any genre)
I just finished it and I felt the same at first, but later in the story it turns out that there's an in world lore reason.
Long ago the monsters dead bodies blood would enter the water systems and cause illnesses in the people who drank and bathed in it. A mage came along and burned all the dead bodies and the illnesses went with them. But the fear of water persisted.
That's why everyone stank to high heaven and were filthy. Honestly they should have introduced the lore sooner, so people wouldn’t drop it.

I know it suppose to be comedy, but I just couldn't do it. there is so many funny stuff, strange-obscure things people in past did, but author chose stinky stereotype. It's not funny, lazy, wrong, and I hate it, why for once I can't get something accurate...
