I read this before they got together and the last parts added what was missing! It could have ended a tragedy and there's nothing wrong with a sad ending however I think it was better for the main character to have to SEE the consequences of his actions when he was overcome by his anger and exhaustion. People make mistakes, horrible awful mistakes that hurt the people we love most, but if you put in the effort to make things right and truly understand why you were wrong then that lesson learned and reality makes a story even better! If anything a happe ending was needed to show that healing is possible if you work hard for it. He gave him space they yearned and healed and they deserve to be together
