Am I the only one who feels like this??

I can't be the only one wondering why authors think it's ok for a mc to buy a slave because their "saving them" or "don't support the act of slavery" but regardless, they ARE supporting slavery and it's just icky to me ╥﹏╥

I feel the exact same way. I do think it can be done in a way that’s okay, but it seems VERY uncommon for authors to be able to do. I think a story is okay when it’s truly just to save them and they don’t become a similar kind of servant or sex object, and the person who saved them doesn’t expect anything in return. Buying a person still feels icky af, but is there any other way to save a slave when slavery is supported by the law in the story?? Bongchon Bride is an example of one that’s incredibly done, it’s beautiful, but I honestly can’t think of another

Exactly like they’re still giving money to the people who own and sell slaves (they usually pay a lot of cash too if they’re a noble or something) so it’s a little hypocritical to financially support the same system they say they hate

Yeah...like yay, this particular main character slave got their happy ending with their loving master, but fuck all you other slaves still being sold by the slave traders, you're not a main character so ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
