Riftan, Riftan, Riftan...*tsk tsk* At this point, I'm wondering if he honestly just doesn't get it, or if he's refusing to get it?
The reason for either one is the same: he wants to protect her from anyone or anything even remotely harmful. And that is something I can understand, of course, especially after everything, even though she has proven that she can hold her own to a degree.
But he doesn't see it that way, and I get that. He doesn't see what she's done, what she's all capable of, only the danger that she tends to throw herself into, or fall into. And that's because he loves her.
Conversely, she loves him so much that she will endure anything if it means helping him somehow. Originally, it was because of her fear of being useless, but I think she's mostly conquered that. She's no longer afraid to speak up, at least. As we saw, it took time for her to learn to do that.
I've said before that they love each other fiercely, and I still stand by that. We, and at least this is true for Americans, tend to expect comics to be limited like cartoons, with everything solved in a short, easy time frame. Everybody learns their lesson, and lives happily ever after.
But real human nature rarely changes that quickly and completely. Both are reckless, stubborn asses, lol. It will never be overnight. He has to let go of the idea of her sitting safely in a tower, or throne, or cage, really. She has to learn what it means to support him, rather than be irresponsible and go off on her own. Both mean well, and they'll eventually get there. We just have to be patient and enjoy the voyage.
