yea but doing nothing does not make you feel good. being told that 90% of what i need from you is just being here would make you feel like you can be nothing more than a pretty doll in their life. someone they come to when they’re tired and need comfort, but never for actual issues. add all the trauma that maxi has endured up till now, and you got her beyond frustrated and sad abt how he expects nothing from her
we know riftan just loves and worries for her so much that he does not want her to get involved in anything that may cause her harm in any way, but the way he phrases it and the way he comes off is as if to say “you’re incapable of anything at all, so just stay confined in this beautiful castle while we do all the actual work” which is honestly basically what he feels
he doesn’t realize that saying these things just makes her, someone w a low self-worth and no confidence in anything she does, feel worse. he’s hurting the person he’s supposed to cherish bc of his intense overprotectiveness. that is beyond suffocating for anyone to deal with, let alone a girl like her who has already experienced being confined to one location her entire life
