Even though everyone is so frustrated with the miscommunication and how maxi is not not being a modern day woman standing up for herself and how the issues are just getting repeated, can I just put it out there that this is exactly what is making this so good to read It's like real life No issues are immediately resolved, conflicts and misunderstandings take time, especially if you've got an abused person with no regards to her own self or health who says the thing she hates most is herself, and you've got aan who's whole life since he was 12 has revolved around the battlefield , commanding men into obedience and becoming the most reckless fiercest person ever, and to note he literally has no idea how to be with a woman Despite all of this he's doing his very best to protect her to be there for her to take care of her how he seems to think she would want to be taken care of because to him whenever he sees her, he sees a delicate woman he loves so much that he loses all sanity if something happens to her They're both navigating how to be with someone, how to become better people, how to become better spouses, and most of all how to not be the versions of themselves they've been so far It's raw and scary and sad and there's so many misunderstandings because they're both trying to keep everything to themselves But again that's exactly what makes this so compelling to read In real life no issues that arise within our own selves can get resolved so quick Otherwise there would be no therapists and we would all live happily ever after I'm sorry if my words offend any here but I don't think you're seeing what I'm seeing And for anyone saying maxi needs to grow a backbone Realize she literally has, she's doing so many things when she had never even thought of herself as someone worth anything, she's pushing her limits, she's taking on so many new challenges when in her father's house she was abused and neglected and made to feel worthless Please see how far she has come and all because she has been given this safety by her husband to become this version of herself Also please keep in mind the era and time period this had been set in and maxi is reacting accordingly Not everyone can be like princess Agnes and even she is only this way because she is an extremely powerful mage and has had her share of battle victories We're too used to overpowered female main characters There are so many women wo are not as extremely powerful but they're doing their absolute best even then I wrote alot because this is how this book looks like in my eyes Raw and real as it should be Not everyone gains amazing powers and becomes self sufficient in everything overnight and that's ok because we're being told that even if you're not a powerful person only you are able to do what only you can do don't give up
