Someone who has read the novel confirmed that ML has always loved the mc!(I myself haven't read it) Getting this spoiler changed everything for me! Apparently ML is also a regressor but he's memories are erased? They all are trapped in that original novel script so can't do as they wish. Ahh can't wait to see how the story unfolds!(≧▽≦)
