this might sound ridiculous, but being broke actually helps you quit smoking lol. idrk about where you live, but in my country, a pack of cigs costs about as much as a nice meal or a fancy drink. so i js set a mindset that i could get something way more enjoyable instead of buying cigs. or maybe try tearing open nicotine pouches and snort the contents. mint and menthol are the best ;;) anw ik quitting isnt easy and def not something you can do overnight. just take it one step at a time, but try not to smoke too often.
see reddit on stop smoking? i never did smoking i have only smoked once and im guilty, i think smoking looks so cool. idk abt nicotine addiction i heard it's genuinely so bad. but all my other addiction i quit cold turkey, i quit caffeine cold turkey, sugar cold turkey, yaoi cold turkey. do it for 1 month and then u will not be that addicted.
If there are places where you’re more likely to feel the urge to do those things, I would try to avoid them as much as possible. This can be hard though because home is likely one of those places and you can’t just never go home. I sh’ed for years, and I know being alone in my room would just drag me down into the depression trenches. I would try to distract yourself as much as possible with things you enjoy (that aren’t harmful of course). I’ve never smoked or anything, but for sh you can touch ice to your skin, eat really sour candy, just things like that that kind of hurt but don’t actually injure you. I’ve heard candy can help with smoking too, but I’ve never smoked like I mentioned so I can’t say whether that works. Maybe try looking up how harmful it is and scare yourself into stopping? Idk
You can also try exercising a shit ton or just doing something that makes you exhausted to the point you’re too lazy to even sh. What helped me stop though was a mixture of finally getting the right meds, getting out of the fuckass school I was in, and my anxiety and self image getting better. I’d say improving your self image is probably the biggest thing to help with sh (I’m not saying you hate yourself, I don’t know you, but I think it’s usually the root of why people sh). The biggest issues for me was extreme self hatred and bad social anxiety, so improving those helped a lot. I was in therapy the whole time, but it didn’t help me too much with sh. Though it could be helpful to you if you’re open to it.
Sorry for the long message, I wish you the best!
it taste like smokeyyy. uhmm if u ever lived in a very bad aqi index area (I'm talking aqi index of 700+ T_T) then smoking a cig feels like that only, in the throat. and taste is bad but not like, toooo baddd. there are also flavored ones like mint strawberry cocoa types but i never tried them nor i wanna try cuz i like my cigs smokeflavoured like god intended #traditional smoker lmao
im sorry if this sounds insensitive but i couldnt help replying again because what u wrote felt way too relatable to me cuz i have the same situation. i dont rlly categorize myself as broke too lmao i just made it up on my mind that im miserable on money, somehow it works on meto gradually stop smoking lol. but honestly, i think the fact that you even made a post about wanting to quit two things that are hurting you means you care about yourself more than you realize. i know its hard to let go of things we’ve done to our bodies, but i think trying to reach out to a professional is a good step. dont force yourself though. you can start with online counseling if that feels easier, then move to in person sessions whenever ur ready. if you keep putting it off for too long, it can get even harder. im probably not the best person to be saying this since im still struggling with similar things myself, but i guess thats the best advice i can give. lots of ppl recommend to do exercise or move ur body etcetc but iwas really lazy so i just go outside for a basic walk and it helps me a bit to ease my mind. hope it gets better
Depends,
Usually people who quit it completely have a reason for it, financial instability, to become a parent, to gain clarity, to take back control, forceful intervention, etc. whatever the reason maybe, standing on the other side of failure to quit is desperation. That’s why majority of people who try to quit failed.
This just mean, the quickest way to quit smoking is to inject/hijack your life to the point of no return, absolutely despair, quitting won’t seems much difficult anymore lol. (Not a doctor, not professional, do not take my words as credible for your extreme actions if you do intend to)
However, if you are not hasten to quit, life is stable and have plenty of time, I greatly recommend self improvement!
This method is essentially diverting the central theme of quitting smoking into developing self control skill, and a good relationship with addiction (not just smoking addiction, but all types of addiction stem from mental reliance). You are not quitting smoking, you are actively managing it: decreasing the frequency of smoking, smoke only half and abandon the rest, just igniting and inhaling but don’t smoke it, etc. of tactics of similar feats. It’s not quitting, but playing with the boundary of self control.
Be aware that with this method, it will take years, like 2-5 years to fully stable. After that is solely depends on how you want to move on, to completely quit, or have one smoke a month or 2, might even just 1 smoke a year. But the main skills developed from this help boost a sense of self, minor contentment, and a higher resistance toward addiction overall. You are developing a skill, and quitting smoking or controlled smoking are just a by product of it.
^^ hope it helps in someway, or at least give u foods for thoughts.
