As a defence, Akino did not see Meguro as useful; he was comfortable around him bc he liked him from the start, however, he was thinking he's straight so he couldn't name it. So he couldn't name the feelings he held towards Meguro and he tried to go into relationships which resembles like Meguro and his'. His first bf is Meguro, ofc he couldn't understand that he can "romantically" love another man. You guys are too harsh on Akino. If he really thought about Meguro as "useful", he wouldn't have so devoted on him so much. He even introduced him to his family -wherever you're looking from, it's a huge step- even tho Meguro was not sure what's going on, because he was sure about Meguro and everything going on.
