This isn't a story that's purpose is to comfort you

So I was reading the comments about people being pissed off about the story, and I agree with everyone. I hate this story, but I respect what its trying to show. It refuses to romanticize abuse, and the ending is painful and goes against literally every single moral I have, but that's why this story's so memorable. It shows how trauma can affect a person’s ability to break free from a cycle of suffering. A lot of people wanted a good ending, but real trauma isn't that simple. I agree it was kinda exaggerated though and the ending 100% SHOULD have been different, but it kinda makes me understand how a person can be trapped in a cycle of abuse. This story made me so uncomfortable but I think that's why the story stayed with me. I'm not justifying what happened because what happened was SO WRONG, but the story shows how complicated abuse and trauma can be.
