i feel like the majority of actual gay people ik are comfortable with switching how come yaoi authors always feel the need to label strict positions on their characters. no shade to this series specifically i js feel like i see situations like this often in a lot of yaois

Because one has to be the man and the other the woman, duh! We must uphold the patriarchal standard even in homosexual relationships, no matter the cost! - yaoi authors, possibly

It's similar in a lot of the korean yuri I've read, one has to be the receiver and the giver often remains pretty much untouched. Their fingers work like dicks I guess lol

It might be a cultural thing. Homosexuality is only starting to be socially acceptable in a lot of places, so that might be a reason. It hasn't even been that long in western cultures to get away from a heteronormative view on queerness either, I remember ppl asking queer couples about who's the man in the relationship more than once

no this is EXACTLY the reason and what i say all the time. a big issue with queer media written by straight women is they still like the relationship to function within the parameters of heteronormativity. one is the man and one is the woman, end of story.

now theres some like this story where, at least, the bottom acts like a grown adult and isnt a child-like push over. but the author still cant escape the cage completely.
