I'm lost

Can someone remind me Sayoung's timeline?
So he was rescued by J, so why did he have so many bandages and was blind?
And then he was kidnapped by the bad guys? But why him if he was sick already?
And then he awakened and J wasn't there?

Thanks in advance

Sayoung was the sole survivor of a rift J was in, J was able to save only him because the rift was poisonous, and even though J saved him, sayoung was in a really critical condition (thats why you see him with the bandages and he was blind), so J took him to a specialized hospital and personally paid and managed to get all the resources the hospital could need to treat sayoung, J grew fond of him but not long after he was sent to the West Sea Rift (this is where he got stuck for 8 years) Since J disappeared no one was there to keep taking care of the resources Sayoung needed and since the Awakement Bureau was still in their beginnings, (spoiler ahead)

one of the doctors that would take care of sayoung was actually a prometheus insider, so when J was no longer there to take care of him, she stole sayoung for their experiments, as you have read all the people they experimented with died, but sayoung awakened instead of dying, healing all the things that were wrong with him and making him (obviously) immune to the poison, do when he awakens since he cant control his poison powers he killed everyone in the Prometheus Lab and thats when Bae Wonwoo and Jungbin find him and thats where we are at in the manhwa

    Spoilers ahead

after that he becomes obsessed with becoming a hunter and starting his own guild with the sole purpose of re entering the west sea rift and finding J, which, he eventually did at the beginning of the story

he was blind and had a bunch of bandages temporarily because he was hurt badly in the place he was found and rescued from. People kidnapped him to see if they could artificially awaken someone and he couldn’t refuse it because he was sick. By the time he awakened and was saved from the kidnappers J was already stuck inside of the rift.

I didn’t read the novel or anything (which i think there is one) but this is my understanding so far.

Bear with me here because I’m someone who only reads the manhwa and is told story spoilers(ish) from novel readers so I can be 100% wrong but here’s the answers that I know of:
    1. He was rescued by J but the dungeon they were in had deadly poisons so the fact he survived was amazing and is why J took care of him a lot. That’s why he had bandages and was blind, because the poison pretty much destroyed his body and J and the doctors were trying to find the “cure” to help him recover (SPOILERS) which could’ve happened if the Sayoung wasn’t kidnapped
TLDR: Body damaged by poison, J only rescued him from the dungeon/rift he was in, it was just after the poison ate away at his body causing bandages and blindness
    2. (THIS IS ALL NOVEL SPOILER AND MOST LIKELY WRONG) He was kidnapped BECAUSE of the poison I believe. The girl doctor we saw in the backstory of those two basically worked for the cult and was secretly kidnapping “high potential awakeners” from the hospital. Because Sayoung was poisoned badly, he was a prime target to be tested on, she just couldn’t take him because J was there (hence why she was super nice to J, to get close to him) so once J “died,” Sayoung was free to be kidnapped. Which is how that happened
TLDR: J was preventing Sayoung from being kidnapped by hospital moles just by existing around him. So after J “died” they kidnapped Sayoung for his poisoned body to test
    3. Basically as I said in 2, because he had high potential to become an awakened. Due to his damaged body, he has a great “desire” to become awakened (since they explain before that people become awakened through desiring something) so he was the perfect test subject. Not to mention Sayoung has no one and nobody would care if he went missing (once J was gone)
    4. He awakened naturally (instead of artificially) because with J’s death he finally reached a “desire” the system thought worthy to become awakened. I could be totally wrong with this but I assume this is the case because (SPOILER) in a different timeline, if J never went into the rift and “died,” Sayoung would’ve grown up happy and normal, never awakening because he had everything he ever would’ve wanted
TLDR: because J wasn’t there he awakened, if J was there he wouldn’t have because J is his “desire”

Hopefully that helped, I’m not the best person to answer so someone else can chime in and add/fix what I said but I wanted to help anyway ヾ(❀╹◡╹)ノ~

Also prometheus targeted rift survivors for their experiments (probably because they wanted people who had been personally in touch with the system)

Thank you glassie! I kinda understand the timeline but you made it so much clearer.
