spoilers obviously but omg this story is actually so fucking good, masterpiece in the making if they do this right ngl.
This story is somewhat confusing but so fucking good, i love an unreliable narrator getting manipulated by literally everyone in their lives. Imo i really want Gwen to be end-game (and it really seems like that’s what the author is pointing towards) and the dynamic difference between Gwen and Nain and nain and Amon is just giving Healthy relationship vs. toxic relationship allegory.
My little theory so far is that Gwen is obviously also a ‘god’ (though if they are really gods is really still confusing to me cause maybe their like the labyrinth sorcerers in a way ykwim?) and I believe he was in a relationship with Nain in his first life (the life he keeps getting flashbacks too) and in the lifetime Amon stole Nain from Gwen and hid him away on the island surrounded by yes man slaves. He knew that if nain remembered anything at all he would not be submissive or obedient so he created the rituals with the help of the priests who are sorcerers, they use magic to wipe his memory and leave him compliant and helpless. but gwen eventually finds out where they are keeping him and makes a disguise (as shown that he can do) I believe he changed his hair to pink not only because it is unnatural and would pique Nain’s interest but because of the flower significance in the pink flowers nain loves and the puppet show Gwen performed in the latest episode also referencing flowers. a lot of flower motifs. and the imagery they use when showing Amon and nain’s relationship doesn’t give ‘He’s going to have a character arc and change’ i think this is more symbolism for a toxic relationship he literally can’t escape. Amon has literally confined him to this island, isolated him, fucked w his memories, and all his imagery is more predator hunting his prey, there is no genuine care for Nain or his feelings, his feelings are more coveting a precious jewel you can’t replace. if he truly cared for nain he would stop killing others, but he can’t, he enjoys it too much, he doesn’t see nain as an equal more of a pet, he find it cute when he rebels in small ways yet punishes him horrifically as soon as his rules are tested. He isn’t afraid of damaging nain as long as he gets what he wants, that’s not love, and i hope to god that’s not end game.
Plus Gwen is obviously the one helping Nain see through Amon’s manipulation, i feel like he knew he couldn’t just steal Nain away because of Amon’s mental manipulation would only make Nain hate him so he has to show Nain who Amon truly is, to show him a world outside of the island exists, that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Gwen gives Nain hope, not despair. I love gwen sm, he truly is the goat. And i feel so bad for Nain, literally stuck in Stockholm syndrome. The portrayal of his mixed feelings of if he loves Amon or fears him is so beautifully done, it’s obvious he is in fight or flight and trying to win his abusers favor to try and appease them and make them ‘nicer’, constantly compromising himself and sacrificing himself to make his abuser happy. I think the sex scene where he basically rapes Nain shows it the best, the utter disregard for Nain’s feelings, Nain telling him it hurts only for Amon to gaslight him because he’s ‘hard’ and ejaculates so he must be “enjoying” it (which is textbook predator speak ngl) this level of manipulation often makes victims feel ashamed and guilty, believing that they must have enjoyed an act of rape simply because they ejaculated or were aroused when psychology/physiology is more complicated than ‘hard = arousal’.
idk i’m yapping but this was just my opinion, 10/10 need all of this NOW, i want to read spoilers or sum but at the same time i really want to see if my theories/opinions are right as they update UGHHH Σ( ̄□ ̄||)
