It only gets worse

I've read up until ch58, and ugh.. first of all, I hope the translator won't be discouraged by my comment, they've done an amazing job with this series, and I'm thankful for their hard work. But the story.. I won't spoil anything major, but chapter 57 is the cringiest chapter I've ever read. If you guys reach it, you'll know what I'm talking about.

So back to the plot, it's basically just misery p@rn. Every single male character either falls in love with the mc, or tries to SA her. She can never get out of bad situations on her own until somebody saves her. And later she even gets mad at everyone who tries to help her, except for Rai, who I usually call 'Temu Tamaki'. The reason for that is because he's what you get if you take away all the subtle complexity of Tamaki's character from Ouran. Rai has pretty much no personality or character introspection other than being the cringe flirty guy of the group, and his backstory is a few sentences about him being the son of a politician. In Ouran, Tamaki's trauma was explored through his way of trying to be the father figure of their friendgroup, and his fear of getting abandoned. It was done in a funny way because Ouran was a comedy, but the buildup was there and the conclusion was good. Rai helps Shinra because he's..bored? And aside from saving Shinra, what does he even do in the story? What does she even like about him? What does she even know about him? This non-existent dynamic makes their chemistry awkward and forced.

Shinra's role is literally a victim throughout the story. Every time she wants to start anew, some misfortune happens to her and she has to be saved. Not by the other guys, no, she only wants Rai to help her, even though the other 2 guys were always also there for her. I honestly think the plot could have done so much more about exploring her situation WITHOUT the romantic aspect. She falls for every person who helps her, but I still don't understand why she claims she's in love with Rai.

Like other people mentioned, Kanan is probably the best character in the story. He has a good backstory and he also has good chemistry with the mc built on similar past experiences. But it cannot be helped that the author seemingly hates him lol he's getting dragged over by a car and Shinra doesn't even care :D and wait until you reach ch 57, oh boy.. Also, Kanan was introduced as a thoughtful, mature guy, who even realized Shinra didn't want to be touched without consent. Ofc it only applies to Kanan because a few chapters later Rai grabs her hand and it's all romantic. At least make the poor girl's trauma consistent.. Or can we have one chapter without suffering or romance? I'm only reading this still because I invested time in it tbh
