I feel like Compton genuinely believes he's helping another one of Heejae's victims break free from him. But at the same time, it doesn't seem like he's looking for peace anymore—he's looking to hurt Heejae the way Heejae hurt him. Sadly, I don't think that path will ever bring him the closure he's looking for. I just hope he doesn't destroy Garam and Heejae's relationship, and that he eventually finds peace himself.
