I think the main character is very well-written and relatable. That’s why I find it a bit inappropriate when people say things like, "Yeah, his backstory is sad, but enough with all the sadness and the constant focus on him." My reasons: He never really received care or love—aside from the time with his adoptive parents, though they essentially abandoned him, and the loneliness he felt growing up was deeply formative. Now that someone he had hoped would stay by his side has rejected him and left him alone again, he doesn't know how to cope with a broken heart for the first time, and he is in despair. A broken heart hurts, and sometimes you just don't know what to do after being rejected by the person you were fixated on the whole time.
