i think what they're saying is, they're gonna be a doujinka (self-publishing) rather than a mangaka under a company/publisher. but i could be wrong.

Apparently it is not that she stopped making BL. If you read her pinned post and the replies, it seems she stopped doing COMMERCIAL BL, but will still create and distribute some herself aka she is going for an indie route. Hooray for that, at least, but I take it her solo work will be sparse nonetheless

Instead I'll create BL independently (basically like what Yura said, a "doujinka" since it's for artists/author who self-publish their works independently) and will distribute/selling them through Digital downloads. So yes they still gonna make BL but just independently, like they said "DL販売" or "DLsites". They also open to work by taking requests (i guess like "open commission") as long as it's not commercial BL (the google form it's on their piku.page and it's linked in their twitter profile, so if u have money haha you can commissioned them). Many JP indie artists (not only manga, but could also be indie game, music, voice acting, etc) post their works there.

So in Japan, most of the time for commercial BL, they'll put the first chapter on a magazine (that's where u decided the demography cause each magazine have their demography such as seinen, shounen, shoujo, etc) and when the feedback is good enough, the publisher company will extend the period for your works to be published there for weekly/bi-weekly/monthly/bi-monthly update, before your chapters are complete and you could make one volume in an e-book format or physical books/comics format (this is also the reason why the earlier Japanese fantranslation team often refer as "scanlation" because they have to physically SCAN those magazines using scanner machine)

This could be the reason why many artists, choose to just published their work independently. Because let's say one of your work in a certain chapter, didn't get any positive reviews or worse, ppl lose interest completely with your work. The magazine could notice the drastic drop in your series, told the editor and publisher team to end the contract with their magazine or cut your "spot/slot" (BY A LOOOOT) in their magazine slot. Like, let's say... The available slot for your manga is 50 panels, so that it can be compressed to this many pages to be published in their magazine, but the artist make that chapter consist of 70 panels, the editor has to push the artist to cut-off the other 20 panels. Sometimes the publisher and editor could push the artist (or threatened even) to quickly send the draft and finished the chapters, even if the artist say they want the story to go this way, and ended after 5 months, but NO if the publisher don't want this or that, then you should change your story completely or even make it end sooner than you want, make a mess of your flow and the pacing of your story.

One magazine contains a loooot of different stories too. That's why public opinions is important cause all those magazines have their own demographic and more likely a "general public" rather than a fan of a specific mangaka or specific works. Like for example, Naruto published in a magazine first, the general public like it and it become a hit. Anyone could read your works, not solely your fans only (or fujo and fudan in BL) if the general public in ur target demographic like your manga, congrats!!! but if they don't and your manga didn't get that much hype? The magazine and publisher could stop your work and give your slot to another manga/mangaka.

You're so right, happened to my friend and she used to make josei and bl, she doesn't anymore because of how scummy her experience was.

She had great sales and reception but the publishers gave her an ultimatum and had to rush the ending to her stories.

She published twelve stories before she quit because the money she was making wasn't equal to the mental exhaustion she was experiencing.
