I thought it was a wonderful Biblical allegory with obvious allusions and symbols. Like Genesis and the Forbidden Fruit, the isolated surroundings, and the "lamb" versus "wolf." The imagery of the color dichotomy (black, or red, versus white) is also there.
Wonderfully executed through the use of dramatic devices.
I honestly can't decide whether or not Todd's character is entirely symbolic of the "Devil." It could really go both ways, maybe even as a nuanced re-interpretation of the "Devil>" but. .. yeah, his character was done really well!
Also, MAYBE this is a spoiler alert:
Does anyone else think Dennis also fits the tragic hero archetype ??? (Obviously, knowing his character and how flawed it is - innocent but tragically naive.) He has virtuous traits but heavily contrasted flaws, which is a common staple of it.
I was thinking of how much it reminded me of Death of a Salesman (DOAS )- which re-interpreted this archetype - only with a heavier sprinkle of Christian theology than Miller's tragic play, LOL. Let me know if you think so too!
