a whole lot of riftan sympathizers in the comments and ykw i get it he’s a complex character and w/o his POV his actions can misunderstood/misconstrued , BUT despite all that let’s not act like he’s some saint. a big reason a lot of people hold disdain for him is his lack of communication and his treatment of maxi. yes, he might be considered a “good” husband for the time period, but it does not make up for how his actions portray him to the readers modern mindset.
