I like how she compared Riftan to her father when he made that threat about locking her up-- almost like Riftan and her father are the opposite sides of the same coin. It was a wake up call for Riftan if anything. He may have good intentions, but it's not his place to decide what Maxi can or cannot do for her own sake. He really should have learned by now that preventing Maxi from doing anything at all makes things worse for the both of them.
