true but at the same time the characters view themselves as victims in order to justify their actions and everything they have done untill that point. i think thats what the author is trying to portray.
I dont think author is trying to justify their actions. Its just more so showing how they themselves think they are ths acrual victims in the world they chose to live.
Also op, i think sometimes, just sometimes you cant really choose the type of living even if you want to. You get pushed into living that lifestyle despite not wanting to. The girl is the example of that. She had to throw away her morals to keep surviving
I actually commend the author for doing that (but I fully get your point). Everyone has a reason for behaving the way they do, whether you think that justifies their behaviour is up to you. To them, it's perfect the most justification but, even if you agree, doesn't mean that you have to agree with how they execute their behaviour. Like, if a character kills someone, that someone's partner might want to get revenge, and you understand why they're doing it, but that doesn't mean you have to agree with it.
Showing someone's tragic backstory, or sad POV, or them crying and drinking, or whatever, humanises them, but that doesn't mean that they're any less rotten inside. In fact, it makes them moreso! Because you KNOW how human they are, and how inhuman they're willing to be. You gotta be a good (enough) writer to show the villain's story without woobifying them
I don't understand why author trying so hard to give perspective from that couple.
Shark loan organization is criminal organization but that's not the point.
1. The man voluntarily joined organization.
2. Ran away with client
3. That woman chose to borrow money from criminal loan shark organization, and chose to ran away
4. They hurt people who never hurt them like that hacker girl, and people from that hacker village.
5. They threatened the boat captain and his wife.
6. Now they currently scamming that old man out of his money
They don't deserve "sad" background story. Thry got what they deserved. They chose bad path, and now it's coming to get them, they ran but by hurting non related people.
I m not even on gangster side, but this couple is no different from the gangster they said they loathed
