I sometimes wonder if the author realises they created a rape scene or not. Just to clarify, I'm not someone who believes that just because an author writes a rape scene, it means they somehow condone rape, that is silly.

What leaves me wondering sometimes is when all the characters involved act like that was consensual and the author does not show it as "the victim is convincing themselves it was consensual to cope with the trauma". I have read the novel, I know what this author's writing is like. There is no reflection on this ever again. You could cut out the rape scene abd replace it with consensual sex and you wouldn't notice the difference based ln everything that happens from now until the end of the story. That is a bit weird and makes me wonder if the author thinks that if you like someone and they have their way with you when you cannot give consent, if it's all good just because you have feelings for them.
