I really thought he was dead, but seeing Ishaan's character (Cell 3 mentor), who was there on the day of the aberrant test, I think Jaeil might actually be alive! They could be using the weaker aberrants for experiments or something, but killing them on the test while sending that kind of guy to clean it up makes no sense.
