That’s what I thought too. Him being on the spectrum. But I think it’s not that. He’s just an asshole, with extra holes.

I read him as having antisocial personality disorder. Not giving any diagnosis but he keeps parroting back how he "should" act without any understanding of the emotional "why" behind it. He's supposed to have only "one love" but if you pay attention, he never treats her as though he loves her. The first thing he does is bring her flowers, without any thought or consideration to her circumstances. He brings his "mistress" back and treats her as property. He doesn't even know that she isn't able to handle money but keeps pushing a huge amount on her. He doesn't seem to know what she likes or dislikes but maybe that's just unclear story telling. I'm not even certain if he "cares" about her or if he's going through a set of motions he thinks is appropriate.

Even with his wife, whom supposedly shakes his heart, there's no hint of "love" in regards to her. He feels stirred, yes, but finds it disturbing. He refuses to examine the emotion or acknowledge it. He doesn't let ANY emotion beyond anger or contempt sit for longer than a millisecond.

I just can't name one emotion that he's had throughout the story beyond those two. It's giving, "I have constipated emotions and I would rather die than unclog them."
