reading this from chapter one to where its at now really made me feel a lot of emotions at once. i was shocked to see how indifferent geonsil was towards yeonseung's situation but then realised he genuinely thinks yeonseung is still alive and can come back, which is why he only started to 'spiral' now that he realises that yeonseung is truly dead. he really is selfish BUT its definitely understandable why he behaves this way especially if we consider his past (NOT justifying his actions just trying to see from a broader point of view)
I do think his reason for not accepting to 'date' yeonseung could stem from his fear of abandonment, its clear he's scared of being alone again and views yeonseung and his grandma as his only 'family'. so he cant date or flat out reject yeonseung because that could possibly lead to him losing yeonseung regardless. if they date there is always the possibility of breaking up, and if he rejects yeonseung he'll have to leave and their relationship (which extends to yeonseung's grandma) will be strained. he's a coward who chose the 'safer' route which was to have no strings attached bcs he thinks this will somehow satisfy yeonseung's desire for a more intimate relationship without risking the relationship they already had.
