Garam didn’t lie about the comrade and friendship. I mean not the stupid label comrade but he appreciates his relationship with Compton as an artist, as a teacher and possibly something more. If you read chapter 190, whenever Compton brought up the professor’s criticism, Garam always told him he was super thankful for having Compton guidance and “the only sensitive enough” for his sounds. He was being truthful but Compton was just too wrapped up in his hatred and frustration for Heejae he was unable to see anything else. I think its very important that Garam face is always portrayed as semi blurred or none if his features are clearly showed to signify Compton’s inability to accept anyone good favour due to his deeply rooted issues with Heeaje.
I completely understand what you say. Indeed, Garam is thankful for everything he has taught him, and that in truth, they share a common past with the professor.
But still, he did lie. He never showed that he didn’t agree with his view of the professor, once he was against a wall he would take Compton’s side instead of explaining that he didn’t feel the same way.
Ofc one thing is about his relationship with the professor that he can be private but another about Heejae as a teacher. He could have said that indeed he’s X and Y but he can also be Z or that he was changing or idk. Even if Compton couldn’t believe that professor can change … still worth the shot to say in my opinion.
That why I said he lied, and for Compton was a lie and an illusion even if Garam tried to be partially honest with him and that he respects him as a conductor.
I need to read the upcoming chapters to have a clearer idea of what both felt.
I mean Compton is another wall himself I don’t think Garam is resourceful enough to pull that down at that stage of the story haha . I think he did try by hinting at chapter 180 maybe you’re going too far with the teaching method but he didn’t care. I also think Compton is 30 already (?) so he had more than 10+ years to let his hatred & ideals brewing and poisoning his head and while what you said can be true, I don’t think a word or two from Garam would have change anything. I think its also a choice for the author to let the conflicts unravel like that because I can’t imagine another 2-3 chapters of Garam tried to persuade Compton or talked him out. I guess in a way, it’s a very harsh wake up call for him because he doesn’t really understand Heejae and he also doesn’t understand his closest student who he thought he was on the same boat with. He would have to force himself to see it in another perspective from now on.
Damn, again my empathy towards Compton remains. I can imagine how devastating and the feeling of betrayal he must’ve felt after realizing that Garam loves the professor and he loves him back.
He lied to his face several times, not about the abuse he did suffer (Garam) or how he could relate to what both had to endure. But it’s the lie of playing his comrade, his “friend” … everything was an illusion and both played with him. That’s the reality so I understand him. However, that shows how immature he still is to humiliate Garam in front of others too.
I hope the professor doesn’t intervene, I think that’s something Garam should handle by himself, even though in my mind I want the professor to break Compton’s baton!
Aside from that, the professor was super cute’ he is cute, he can be cute, ughhhh
