I really hope ML is a good guy but looking at the cover makes me think otherwise? Not to say he’s a black flag but that he’s not going to be a green flag either. Despite ML also being on the cover, MC does not look happy or relieved to see him. He looks scared. He isn't looking at ML (or his abuser). Instead he's staring off into something /nothing in front of him, looking completely...equally traumatized by both? Then we see the cuffs- forcing feelings, not letting MC go, not respecting boundaries, imbalance of power, hostage? Of course they could just be literal since ML is a cop and MC a (coerced) criminal. But it doesn’t feel like that. Their fingers are not intertwined, although it looks like ML might want to from how he's cupping (?)/ trying to rest MCs hand on his. The way ML is staring at him but MC isn’t even acknowledging him. The fact the ML has him cuffed when MCs covered in bruises, his clothes undone, mid assault by his abuser. IDK, maybe I’m reading too much into it? Is anyone else questioning the cover art choice? I think a lot more artists have been using that to give a glimpse into the theme or important factors to the season/story lately.
I think this next chapter is going to give us a lot more into MLs character. If ML rapes MC I know that’s just going to be further devastating to MC. Clearly ML was someone important and they had a really bad fall out- to the point that MC doesn’t trust him and has cut ties. To have ML come back into MCs life, trying to earn MCs trust and doing what he can to “save” MC or keep MC safe, only to do what his shit abuser does… to break his trust again? Ugh.
