So after reading chapter 6, I have a theory about what could have happened in the past. Obviously, we saw flashbacks of Damhwa treating Yugang like a possession more than someone had genuine feelings for him, which probably led to Yugang being treated as a “toy” per se. But I also imagine along the way Damhwa ended up reciprocating those feelings. My theory is that he confessed to Yugang before the race (where he got into an accident), however Yugang didn’t believe him due to his previous insincerity and “sins” (we can see this in the first flashback where Yugang goes “YOU like me?”). So in order to prove his feelings, either 1. Yugang gave Damhwa an ultimatum to forfeit the race somehow or maybe even more extremely injure himself?? 2. Damhwa decided to forfeit the race on his own. From the flashbacks, it’s clear og Damhwa had a bit of an ego and was quite prideful, so he definitely would’ve put himself in danger to make a point, especially if he was being tested. As such, I believe Damhwa caused his own accident, thereby showing Yugang that he really did like him, however lost his memories as a result and that’s why Yugang’s emotions are running wild now. He doesn’t know whether to hate Damhwa or love him because this new version is so different to the one he’s known all this time. AND I believe him laughing at Damhwa’s unconscious body at the hospital was him coming to terms with the absurdity that after finally having his feelings reciprocated, Damhwa went and forgot their history entirely.
