So I know this is on an indefinite hiatus but I’ve rereading Dear 00 for the fifth time and have this burning theory (someone may have already mentioned it, not sure because I haven’t taken a look at all the comments).
My theory is that Adam did in fact lose his sight as a result of the guiding medication’s side effects. As a result, he fell into depression that he wouldn’t be able to physically see Eve anymore (we already know how much he adores Eve and loves simply looking at him because he thinks Eve is beautiful). Eve may have also heavily blamed himself as a result of Adam’s state (as we can see hints of him doing in the present timeline when he avoids guiding Adam because of the fluctuations in his heartbeat), which in-turn caused Adam enough grief to make him want to commit suicide (1. To remove himself as a source of guilt for Eve and 2. To remove himself from the hell of never being able to see Eve again). Adam probably succeeded in doing so and as a result died, or was incredibly close to dying. Eve subsequently goes on a rampage and either revives Adam and alters his memories to ensure he doesn’t commit suicide again, or starts a rampant destruction. My other theory is that Adam doesn’t succeed in committing suicide, but does scar Eve heavily with his attempt, to the extent that he destabilizes. As a result, Isaiah gives his eyes to Adam as not only a way to return normalcy, but to help his old lover and friend. We know Isaiah and Adam used to date in the past so Isaiah most likely still cares for Adam and his safety (cares! not necessarily loves). In the present, we can also see that Isaiah has one black eye and one normal one, however, in the past both look normal. I assume Gabriel (Isaiah’s esper) gave Isaiah one of his eyes after he gave his own to Adam, because we can see that they both have one that doesn’t work. Eve might’ve gotten jealous that Adam now bore Isaiah’s eyes (Isaiah mentioned that Eve’s first emotion wasn’t fear but envy, and he’s definitely seen to be envious of Adam and Isaiah’s proximity), and hence went rogue which has led to their current circumstances. In both scenarios, Adam is prone to believe he is the cause of Eve’s distress.
That’s my theory, and I could be totally wrong but it’s been on my mind for a while so I wanted to share.
Thank you for actively uploading and taking the time/money to provide us with official translations. You’re amazing and have been so consistent with updates despite the publisher. I see no reason for anyone to complain, please be assured that there are people that appreciate your work so much!
