MULTIPLE TIMES, to multiple people she said she was scared of him nobody even took her seriously. Ok bc in the novel he's bad etc.. but when she met him for the second times it didn't get better... That's a huge red flag.
And Emily really idek... That girl's been spreading propaganda Abt the duke since chapter one... Telling the fl it's her fault she's being harassed by the duke but she was drunk and she doesn't even REMEMBER. + Nothing indicates the duke was drunk (quite the contrary) so don't tell me he didn't know she was drunk.
Poor girlie first time she drinks shit like this happens, if I were her I wouldn't be caught ten meters next to alcohol. (I have to say it's quite unrealistic that she never had alcohol before bc she's a noble, but she has to be pure, right ? That's why she didn't even have a first kiss before she met him. )

The dad is awful, the mom is enabling him. Generational trauma. With a dad as awful as him ofc shell think the ml is ok even though the novel and her instincts are telling her he's bad.
Now, this story is packed with double standards. The ml is shown as someone who ruins the fcs lives who are against ogfl. We don't even hear abt what he does to the male characters. The ex fiancee was just shouted at when multiple times he is told as someone who kills women. Kate is told that nobody wants an obsessive woman. But the ml is praised for being an obsessive man (1)
The fl was reprimanded for sleeping out one night when ml's parents didn't care (2).
The dad is depicted as a bad husband who ruined the mothers life (became quiet, stopped smiling) and all he had to do was get on his knees and cry.... (Someone commented that when you get older, you understand, but there's only one thing to understand: when you make stories, you have a choice. Why write about how awful the dad is, how he made his wife stop smiling, how she was going to divorce just for him to take him back ?
