The people in control, humans still control the planet, import people that bring in new technologies that make life for the rich simpler and easier, while crime increases and two tier policing continues. Youre simply trying to cope that the foreign aliens immigrating from somewhere else "in search of a better life", getting special privileges and treatment and all that shablang and thinking "hmmm eureka this must be communism and the rich and the poor!" when most aliens aren't richer than the average human, mainly just that one criminal, the rest? Mainly living off government funds or getting nepotistic positions from fellow aliens. And that whole thing where the weapons dealer was also treated badly because he also was different from the other aliens? Did that just fly over your head? Its obviously a showcase that as aliens discriminate against humans and humans discriminatate against aliens, aliens will also discriminate against their own, not based on "wealth" but race. I think it’s more complex than just that, it’s partially this. In some ways I think it approaches how you should fight it back against oppressors, even if what they offer is gilded chains and see them for what they really are under the surface. The aliens faked the meteorite to take over earth, then began slowly eroding away at the humans and using their privileges over them. Not everyone noticed because it wasn’t them at first. They also began abusing their positions and doing terrible things as well, even though not all of them did so. In a way they are just like humans.
But it also addresses that fact, many of them were shitty, but there were innocent people in there. Not all of them were to blame, or aware of what was going on. In the process of a revolution innocent people get swept up in it. That’s what the characters all have to grapple with. Alongside mental illness but that mental illness is also born from the situation at hand.
Everything going on is the fault of government basically. You could say its directly referencing America or Corporations in a way, a super power that influences everyone else and makes people accommodate for it and even creates privilege for certain individuals. The imbalance of power between entities.
It’s not the individuals at fault, it’s the bigger picture. The systems. Alongside people allowing and not fighting back against it, or having suspicion.
I think it’s interesting cause the story is trying to tackle the entire idea, the good and the bad, the whys behind why people are the way they are and react the way they do. Why xenophobia exists, what happens when people don’t have those suspicions when they should, and etc.
The way the people accept the aliens is a lot like how people accept corporate propaganda, ads, and even political propaganda. Without much suspicion or thought. And you aren’t supposed to question it, it’s dangerous or wrong to question it or so society will have you believe. And if people don’t question it they get exploited… and in the process of a Revolution innocent and good people get caught up in it.
I don’t think the aliens can be condensed to one single concept, because the story is tackling so many. I think they are ultimately just a critique of “us vs them”. The resulting privilege, the people hurt, and how it’s a distraction. All the drama in the story is a distraction really from the real issues, the people who lied, the people who profited, the people who gained. Everyone here is the victims.
I don’t see how people think its racism, its more like “eat the rich “ kinda thing , pun intended, the aliens are slaving humans in warehouses for minimum wages in terrible conditions, making up fake charities, holding orgies, holding positions in power, remind you of anyone?
