Well, am I the only one but isn’t it pretty standard that historical practices will occur in works with historical settings? I know there are isekai sub genres where modern protagonists enter with modern values so sometimes they manage to weave some changes in practices we modernies feel iffy bout but in this case, I would rather the author stay true to the historical setting then place modern ideals” that would so obviously wouldn’t be mainstream in the past. Well, at least we see papa Yeon taking that side a bit.
I mean, there are already genres where we did the “what if historical eras has modern values introduced?” but if every single historical manhwa did that then it be boring as heck. Sure, I do enjoy a feel good unrealistic utopia where modern mcs transmigrate into positions of power but don’t have to deal with backward practices of the time or breeze through it easily, but can’t
Of course, I’m not reading this for the romance, but I think it’s pretty historically accurate that namgoong clan would jump on their guns to get them betrothed now since 1. They love Yeon 2. Her papa is friend tho family can be annoying but it’s okay they strong 3. They probably guessed ryu has feelings for her, or at least, any parent likes to see their anti social married-to-the-sword kid become human-like and hey 4. Why not one who he at least treats as a friend because 5. If not her, (they probably don’t see hope in him making friends with anyone else) and he would probably die wilting on a sword 6. As parents of that era, they know that if they do not take action now, Yeon (daughter of great family) might be snatched.
I just find it funny hypothesizing the reasons this life compared to past life when they wanted to protect the only daughter of their dead friend.
Also, 11 year olds have crushes too what are yalls talking about. Yeon is different since she is an adult stuck worrying bout papa and nothing can bloom while she looks at these prepubescent kids until they grow up But hey, it’s normal to have puppy crushes amongst childhood friends.
TLDR; I don’t really care the boys are crushing on Yeon, I don’t really worry about betrothals being thrown to Yeon without her having any say because that IS the reality of those times and the only way she is going to have a say in it is 1. Having a father (still alive) strong enough to block it for her and respect her wishes 2. She becomes strong enough no one can say anything, which is obviously what this FL martial arts /historical manhwa is about duh I knew what I signed up for - a martial arts/discover father’s death story - so I’ve never been invested in any of these puppies and doesn’t (emotionally) matter much to me who ends up being attached to her ヾ(☆▽☆)
